We are pleased to inform you about the progress in our Greenhouse project at Fundación AHLE (La Fundación Acción Humana de la Luz Eterna (A.H.L.E)) of San Francisco de Yojoa. The project includes the construction of an 8 x 35 meter Mega Tunnel Greenhouse. Fundación AHLE is a beneficiary of our Angeles de la Esperanza Program in Honduras through

via Food for the Poor. This Greenhouse Project will help the youth home by providing the children and adolescents who live and study in the facilities with an agricultural education and will also provide a constant source of fresh vegetables to supplement their basic diet.

Our Greenhouse Project includes training by our agronomist engineer in the following practices:

  • Identification, cleaning and leveling of the space for the Mega Túnel greenhouse
  • Assembly of mega tunnel
  • Preparation of soil beds
  • Seed germination
  • Planting and installation of irrigation system
  • Weeding / cleaning / fertilizing / spraying
  • Harvesting of products
  • Training in sustainable practices

It also includes agricultural inputs necessary for the operation of the greenhouse, such as: mobile irrigation system with filter and drip irrigation tapes, knapsack pump, certified seeds, among others. Tomatoes along with green peppers have been chosen as the ideal vegetables for this greenhouse project as they are of great nutritional value and are part of many of the Honduran dishes. Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and many minerals, providing vitamin C, a powerful natural antioxidant, which also contains vitamins A, K, B3, iron and potassium. The high iron content of green bell peppers helps prevent iron deficiency anemia in children. It is a food rich in potassium, which helps with good circulation. Contains zinc that helps strengthen the immune system and wound healing. Both vegetables can be added to almost every meal and prepared in a variety of ways to supplement your current diet. Thanks to this project we will alleviate the economic burden of this home and we will support the minors with quality agricultural education.
