The Dionisio de Herrera School in La Iguala, Lempira did not have the appropriate space to accommodate the large number of students from the community. Many students received classes outdoors, subject to the strong heat and the need to interrupt their studies when it rained or a storm hit. The interior of the school was overcrowded and had problems with the roof, which leaked, and the bathrooms, which were in poor conditions. Morale was low among teachers and students, resulting in high rates of absenteeism.
Thanks to the collaboration of CEPUDO and Food for the Poor, a dignified and safe school building was built. Students will no longer have to receive their classes outdoors and will no longer be exposed to different weather conditions. We are sure that many, many students will get a great education at this school.
